The National Institute of Health (NIH), Somalia, strengthens national health security through key departments responsible for emergency preparedness and
response (EPRR), public health laboratories, health research, workforce development and FETP, port health and cross-border health security, IHR
implementation, planning and monitoring, and administration and finance. Together, these departments support coordinated, evidence-based actions to
prevent, detect, and respond to public health threats.

Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) Department

Coordinates emergency preparedness, outbreak response, and the Public Health Emergency Operations Center (PHEOC) to strengthen national health security.

Public Health Laboratory Capacity Development Department

Strengthens laboratory systems, diagnostic services, quality assurance, and biosafety to improve disease detection and surveillance..

Health Research Department

Conducts and promotes research to generate evidence that informs public health policies and programs.

Port Health Services Department

Safeguards public health at airports, seaports, and land borders through surveillance and implementation of health measures.

Dept. of Administration & Finance

Provides administrative, financial, human resource, procurement, and operational support to ensure effective institutional performance.

Health Training and Development Department

Builds the public health workforce through the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP), professional training, and capacity development.

International Health Regulations (IHR) and Cross-Border Health Security Department

Coordinates implementation of the IHR (2005) and strengthens cross-border collaboration for disease prevention and response.

Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PM&E) Department

Leads strategic planning, monitors program performance, and supports evidence-based decision-making and organizational improvement.
