WE AIM TO IMPROVE THE NATIONAL HEALTH OF SOMALIA THROUGH EVIDENCE-BASED RESEARCH

WHAT WE DO?

The Somali National Institute of Health (NIH) is a national public health agency that conducts and supports research, education, training, and disease prevention and control.

Our mission is to improve the health of the Somali people through innovative integration of research, surveillance, training, and prevention and control of diseases.

We conduct and support scientific research to address important public health issues for the country and to provide evidence-based public health information for decision-making. We also aim to build resilient systems that can prevent, promptly detect, and effectively respond to public health risks and emergencies through attaining and sustaining IHR (2005) core capacities.

NIH is on the cutting edge of health security.

We confront national disease threats through advanced computing and lab analysis of huge amounts of data to quickly find solutions.

NIH puts science into action.

We track disease and find out what is making people sick and the most effective ways to prevent it.

NIH nurtures public health.

We build on our significant contribution to have strong, well-resourced public health leaders and capabilities at national, state, and local levels to protect Somalia from health threats.
